Sector focus groups are playing an important role in the ongoing skills and recruitment development within Lancashire.

The monthly groups – which have covered all the sectors seen as a priority to Lancashire’s economic prosperity – have given important feedback to the process.

From employability skills to an ageing workforce, the groups have contributed to the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) by engaging with officers who will use their feedback in a final report which will be submitted to the Department for Education at the end of May.

All groups have been chaired by experienced industry experts who engaged with the original Trailblazer process which led to the LSIP being rolled out across England from November 2022.

The hour-long meetings have been focused on the following priority sectors, transport & distribution, construction, services, manufacturing and hospitality, leisure and tourism.

As well as the focus groups, one-off roundtable events have taken place on cross-sector themes including health and social care, farming and agriculture, low carbon and sustainability and employability skills.

Further roundtable events are being planned for the aerospace and energy and the environment.
